O’Connell & Associates, Inc is a full-service investigations firm with experience in the field of providing responsive, discreet and professional investigative services to a wide variety of clientele, including prestigious law firms, national insurance companies and specialty clients – both in the government and private sectors. The technology used today for electronic eavesdropping can range from the ultra-sophisticated to the off-the-shelf ‘hobby shop’ variety – making “bugging” accessible to most anyone. Recent advances in micro-electronics have made industrial spying an easy job. With smaller, more efficient devices – microphones the size of a grain of rice – and transmitters smaller than an olive – the techniques for detection must be equally as sophisticated.
The Washington Post newspaper has stated that Fortune 500 companies have spent many hundreds of thousands of dollars to counter electronic eavesdropping. The seriousness of the problem is clearly evident in that no one is immune to this threat.
At O’Connell & Associates, Inc. we have assembled an electronic countermeasures team that is considered one of the top teams of its kind in the country. Our team utilizes the same highly sophisticated test equipment and techniques as select government agencies. The technical team personnel have been extensively trained and complete periodic refresher courses to stay up-to-date.
• Walk-Through: Physical inspections – Phone lines, walls, drawers, furniture, artwork, floors, etc.
• What is suspected? Rooms? Phones? Hidden Video Cams?
• Searching for either: 1) Battery Powered Transmitter or 2) Wired Transmitter & Recorder/Receiver.
• Is the Recorder/Receiver on-site or off-site?
• Turn on all electrical devices that might be feeding electricity to a ‘cube’ tap.
• Use the Transmitter Detector (TD-53) with a WB Frequency Probe to find a ‘cube’ tap or drop transmitter. (Search for active RF field in the residence)
• Conduct a ‘Line Driver’ Test for any concealed microphones in the target area.
• Conduct Infra-red countermeasures sweep for sources of IR transmissions. (Light, Laser)
• Search for ‘Carrier Current Transmitters’ using a carrier current/video camera probe. (Will detect carrier devices that fall in the frequency range of 30 KHz to 500 KHz.
• Conduct a telephone countermeasure sweep, checking for a ‘Series’ tap or ‘Parallel’ tap.
• Call into residence to activate any VOX device.
• Use advanced wiretap detector to further check for listening devices or ‘hookswitch’ bypasses.
